Joining the vibrant realm of graphic design at Daily Racing Form under the mentorship of Pierre "Peb" Bellocq was a whirlwind of inspiration and learning. Working alongside a maestro in the field, I delved into the art of visually narrating the pulse and fervor of the racing world. Under Bellocq's guidance, I honed my skills in capturing the dynamic spirit of horse racing, translating its vitality into captivating visual stories. The 26 year experience was a fusion of technique and passion, igniting a fervent love for design within the electrifying tapestry of the racing culture.Â
Logo redesign
The change in the drawings did not come without some soul searching. Chris Donofry, the DRF designer, who drew the new mascot, approached the project with a mixture of fear and reverence and artistic grace. He actually submitted two candidates. The other one was a stretched-out version of the running horse, whose front feet popped out of the right side of the logo center. Each horse had backers among the DRF braintrust, and there were a few bruised egos when the "flyer" won the bakeoff.
